A London, Brighton and South Coast Railway key wound pocket watch, by The American Watch Co, Waltham, Mass. The enamel face is marked with the company initials, LB&SCR, the full company name and No 547 hand engraved on the inner case. The watch was used by Mr G Blackwell of Battersea, a Guard at Victoria who retired in Feb 1933. The watch is accompanied by a letter confirming his retirement, dated 2nd Feb and outlining free pass and privilege ticket entitlements, a letter dated 11th Feb offers Blackwell his watch No 547 for the sum of ten shillings, a receipt for payment dated 13th Feb and his SR Privilege Ticket identity card for 1943-1946. The watch is in working order with a remarkable provenance as detailed. (Postage Band: B)
