A wagonplate, WILLIAM SPENCE, DUBLIN, 1888, S. GEOGHEGAN'S DESIGN, from a wagon used in conjunction with a 1'10" gauge locomotive built for Arthur Guiness and Co Ltd, St James Gate Brewery, Dublin. The locomotives were unusual machines, designed by Samuel Geoghegan, the Brewery Engineer. These locomotives had their cylinders and crankshaft placed horizontally over the boiler. Additionally, there was a unique arrangement whereby they could be mounted on broad gauge wagons and used on the 5'3" gauge. The plates on the wagons incorporated the word 'Design', as on the plate we are offering for sale. The plates on the locomotives included the word 'Patent'. Cast iron, 14½"x8¾", repainted.
