A worksplate, De WINTON & Co ENGINEERS, CARNARVON, 1895. De Winton supplied a wide range of machinery and mining equipment to the Welsh slate industry, including vertical boiler locomotives and steam driven stationery engines. In 1895 they supplied two vertical boiler locomotives, the first was a 3ft 0in gauge examples named LLANFAIR for Brundrits, Penmaenmawr quarries, North Wales. Latterly owned by the Penmaenmawr & Welsh Granite Co. and now preserved and on display at the Welsh Highland Railway, Dinas, near Caernarfon. The second was a 2ft 0in gauge locomotive named ARTHUR for the Pen-yr-Orsedd quarry at Nantlle, which was withdrawn from service in the 1940's and scrapped in 1956.
