A locomotive nameplate, SIR MADOR DE LA PORTE with KING ARTHUR CLASS appendage below, from a Southern Railway N15 Class 4-6-0 No 785 built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 23281, in September 1925 and named after one of the twelve Knights who sought to destroy Launcelot in Arthurian legend, becoming BR 30785. It spent all its BR days at Eastleigh apart from a couple of months at Nine Elms. Withdrawn from Eastleigh in October 1959, it was cut up at the nearby Works. Cast brass, length 52¼", ex loco condition with the original red paintwork, the back clearly stamped 785.
