A signal box nameboard, SHANKEND, from the Hawick to Riccarton Junction section of the Waverley route which closed in 1969. Cast letters on wood, length 56", the front repainted, the back shows evidence of previous use as a station sign, so this may be a replacement for a board that perished in this desolate location.
