A locomotive nameplate, CARDIGAN CASTLE, from a GWR 4073 Castle Class 4-6-0 No 4087 built at Swindon in June 1925 and named after the 11th Century Castle, the remains of which stand above the River Teifi in this Dyfed town. It spent most of its BR days at Laira with spells at Penzance before finishing its days at St Philips Marsh from where it was withdrawn in October 1963 and sold for scrap to Coopers Metals at Sharpness.
