A worksplate, L & NER, 4419, Doncaster, 1906, from a Great Northern Railway/LNER C1 Class 4-4-2 Atlantic built at Doncaster, Works No 1117, in May 1906, GNR No 1419, becoming LNER 4419, renumbered 2849 in 1946 and withdrawn from Ardsley on 19 July 1948 before receiving its allotted BR number 62849. After withdrawal it was used as a stationary boiler at Doncaster Carriage Works from July 1948 until July 1953 when it was scrapped at the nearby Locomotive Works. In 1927 it achieved some notoriety when it was sent to Scotland for trials over the Waverley route but deemed insufficiently powerful to keep time on the gradients involved and returned to England. Cast brass, 9"x5", the front repainted. (Postage Band: B)
