A smokebox numberplate, 90479, from a War Department Austerity 2-8-0 built by Vulcan Foundry, Works No 5081, in June 1944 to Ministry of Supply order, WD No 78680. Loaned to the LNER in November 1945 and allocated to York, it was purchased by the LNER in December 1946 becoming Class O7 No 3158 and allocated to Heaton, becoming BR 90479 in May 1949. Its BR sheds included Tweedmouth, Thornaby, West Hartlepool and Hull Dairycoates from where it was withdrawn in September 1966 and sold for scrap to Drapers at Hull. The front repainted, milling to the top edge of the plate, probably to clear the smokebox handle. (Postage Band: D)
