£9,800
A locomotive nameplate, EARL OF ST GERMANS which was first carried by the GWR 3200 (later 9000) Earl Class 4-4-0 No 3207 (9007 from August 1946) built at Swindon in December 1936, using parts from the Bulldog Class 4-4-0 No 3410, and named after the seat of the Eliot family at Port Eliot, St Germans, Cornwall. In 1937 the GWR decided to remove the Earl names from the 4-4-0s and transfer these to recently built 4073 Castle Class 4-6-0s and No 5050 (named Devizes Castle when built in May 1936) was renamed EARL OF ST GERMANS in August 1937. Allocated new to Worcester in May 1936, its later sheds included Laira, Shrewsbury, Old Oak Common and St Philips Marsh from where it was withdrawn in August 1963 and sold for scrap to Coopers Metals Ltd at Sharpness. The bottom of the splasher clearly shows where the radius has been altered to accommodate the larger driving wheels of the Castle Class engine.
