£140
A tenderplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 8932, GATESHEAD, 1897. The number 8932 was blank as a locomotive prior to 1937. Darlington, and Gateshead to 1933, allocated their tenders the same numbers as the locomotive but this changed in 1938 when tenders were renumbered in a separate series. Under this the numbers 8919-8940 were allocated to spare D17 and J21 tenders together with twelve Class J27s returned from the LNER Southern Area, so this plate was probably carried on one of those tenders. Cast brass 9"x5", the front repainted. (Postage Band: B)
