A worksplate, LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 8707, Darlington, 1913, from a NER J72 Class 0-6-0T No 2190 which entered traffic in November 1914 and was renumbered 8707 in 1946, becoming BR 68707. Its BR sheds were Darlington, West Auckland and West Hartlepool from where it was withdrawn in April 1962 and cut up at Darlington Works. Our description follows that used when this plate was sold by Sheffield Railwayana Auctions some years ago and would have been provided by the late Keith Buckle. The number 8707 is, however, one of a sequence allocated to NER tenders, so this plate may well be from one of those tenders. Cast brass, 9"x5", the front cleaned but unpainted. (Postage Band: C)
