A locomotive nameplate, CLEEVE ABBEY, from the GWR 4073 Castle Class 4-6-0 No 5091 rebuilt in December 1938 from the 1923-built Star Class 4-6-0 No 4071 whose name it retained with the addition of the CASTLE CLASS appendage below the name. The rebuilt engine first entered service at Bristol Bath Road where it remained until moving to Swindon in 1948 and later sheds included Shrewsbury, Chester GW, Landore, Cardiff Canton, Worcester and Tyseley from where it was withdrawn in October 1964 and sold for scrap to Cashmores at Great Bridge. The engine takes its name from the 12th century abbey near Washford in Somerset of which the priory remains. Complete with the original receipt from British Railways in 1964 for £15.00 and the associated paperwork.
