A union sash, GENERAL RAILWAY WORKERS UNION, LNWR BROAD STREET No 1 & 2 BRANCHES, blue velvet, overall 84" with much embroidery, gilt decoration including locomotive and emblem, United We Stand, Divided We Fall. The union was formed in 1889, part of the "New Unionism" movement, catering for lower paid railway workers, campaigning solely for improved pay and conditions rather than providing a welfare fund. It finally merged with the ASRS and United Pointsmen and Signalmen's Society in 1913 to form the NUR. (Postage Band: C)
