A smokebox numberplate, 31615, from a Southern Railway U Class 2-6-0 No A615 built at Brighton in August 1928 using a boiler and other parts supplied by Woolwich Arsenal. It was later renumbered 1615 and became BR 31615. Allocated to Reading SR by January 1948 and later Redhill, Bournemouth and Guildford from where it was withdrawn on 6 October 1963 and cut up at Eastleigh Works in the week ending 30 November 1963. The front repainted, the back marked with the BR(S) Ashford triangle, a weld repair to the right of the figure '1', hardly noticeable. (Postage Band: D)
