A locomotive nameplate, SIR BALAN, with KING ARTHUR CLASS appendage below, together with its smokebox numberplate 30769, from a Southern Railway N15 Class 4-6-0 No 769 built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 23215, in June 1925 and named after a Knight of the Round Table in Arthurian legend, becoming BR 30769. In BR days it was allocated to Dover and Stewarts Lane, finishing its days at Eastleigh from where it was withdrawn in February 1960 and cut up at the nearby Works. The nameplate cast brass, length 31½", the back clearly stamped 769, the smokebox numberplate repainted, the BR(S) Eastleigh triangle on the back.
