A cabside numberplate, SOUTH EASTERN AND CHATHAM RAILWAY, LONGHEDGE WORKS, 598, from a London Chatham & Dover Railway B Class 0-6-0 No 139 built by Dubs & Co, Works No 890, in February 1876. On the formation of the SE&CR on 1 January 1899 it was renumbered as 598 and reboilered at Longhedge Works in June 1899 when this plate was probably fitted. It was fitted with new cylinders in July 1899 and placed on the SE&CR's Supplementary List on 30 June 1911 as No A598 before withdrawal in June 1912. Cast brass, 16½"x11½", the front repainted, the back in fine original condition. A remarkable survivor from a loco withdrawn over 100 years ago. (Dispatch by Mailboxes/Collect from Banbury Depot)
