A worksplate, HUNSLET ENGINE, 2897, 1943. From a standard gauge Austerity 0-6-0ST new to the War Department as 5048 at Longtown, near Carlisle. Renumbered 75048 and later 123, it worked at a number of WD depots finally based on the Bicester Military Railway. Sold in October 1962 to the Hunslet Engine Company who rebuilt it as their works number 3883 of 1962. It underwent trials with British Railways Western Region based at Swindon between March and April 1963 and then sold in June 1963 to the National Coal Board at Glasshoughton Coking Plant, Castleford as COAL PRODUCTS No 6. Transferred to the adjacent Glasshoughton Colliery in February 1971 and sold for preservation in March 1979. Currently located on the Epping Ongar Railway. Cast iron, 11½"x8", the front cleaned and repainted. (Postage Band: C)
