A nameplate, INVERNESS-SHIRE, from a LNER D49 Shire Class 4-4-0 No 329 built at Darlington in August 1928, renumbered 2725 in 1946, becoming BR 62725. It spent its BR days at Perth and Stirling from where it was withdrawn on 10 November 1958 and cut up at Darlington Works. Cast brass, length 56¼", the background partially cleaned by the railway before sale, otherwise as removed in 1958/59. The centre fixings are identical to Aberdeenshire which we sold in 2009. The D49 Shires were named after English and Scottish counties through which LNER routes passed, this one being named by virtue of the West Highland Line passing through the county between Corrour, Fort William and Mallaig.
