A smokebox numberplate, 43873, from a Midland Railway 3835 Class 0-6-0 No 3873 built at Derby in 1918, becoming BR Class 4F 43873. A long time Stratford-on-Avon engine, working over SMJ lines, it spent its final years at Bedford and St Albans from where it was withdrawn in June 1959 and, after over two years in store at Chaddesden, Derby, was cut up by Albert Loom at nearby Spondon in October 1961. The face of the numbers repainted, otherwise original condition. (Postage Band: D)
