An LNWR illuminated address, presented to Walter Mayes Turnbull on his appointment to the position of Superintendent of the Northern Division, June 1903. The address was presented together with a gold watch, and a diamond and sapphire brooch for Mrs Turnbull (these items are not included in this lot). The address is contained in a solid silver case, the design resembling the facade of a classical building, with Corinthian columns to each side of the double doors. The frontage is decorated with colourful enamel coats of arms, those of the LNWR at the top displayed between the entablature and the triangular pediment. Below are those of Midlands towns and cities, including Birmingham and Coventry. Each part of the body and doors is hallmarked. The overall height is 17" and the combined silver weight is estimated at between 30 and 40 troy ounces. Accompanying the address is a volume listing the subscribers and their stations, listed alphabetically from Adderley Park to Wyrley, Bowen Cooke's signature is included. Spine damage, otherwise good. A unique and historic item. (2) (Postage Band: D)
