A worksplate, LONDON NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY Co No 1944 DARLINGTON 1944 from LNER A2/1 Class 4-6-2 No 3698, a class of four locomotives which entered traffic in November 1944, was renumbered 509 in 1946 and named WAVERLEY in October 1946 after the series of books written by Sir Walter Scott, becoming BR 60509. Always a Haymarket engine, it was withdrawn from there in August 1960 and cut up at Doncaster Works. Fully engraved brass, 13"x7½", the front lightly polished, the back stamped 509. (Postage Band: C)
