A smokebox numberplate, 31540, from a South Eastern & Chatham Railway H Class 0-4-4T No 540, the first of the class built at Ashford in November 1904, which became SR 1540 and BR 31540. It spent its BR days at Dover and Bricklayers Arms from where it was withdrawn in February 1960 and cut up at Ashford Works the following April. Ex loco condition, but devoid of paintwork, the BR(S) Ashford triangle on the back. A postcard photograph of the locomotive accompanies this lot. (Postage Band: D)
