A smokebox numberplate, 31407, from a (South Eastern & Chatham Railway) N Class 2-6-0 No 1407 assembled at Ashford Works in August 1933 from parts made at Woolwich Arsenal, which had spare capacity after the First World War, with the exception of the boiler which was constructed by the North British Locomotive Co. It became BR 31407. Allocated to Exmouth Junction by January 1948, it spent most of its BR days at Ashford before finishing at Weymouth from where it was withdrawn in July 1963 and sold for scrap to Birds at Morriston, Swansea from where the vendor acquired this plate. Ex loco condition, a BR weld repair between the last two numbers, the BR(S) Eastleigh triangle cast on the back. (Postage Band: D)
