A worksplate, NEILSON REID, 5828, 1900, from a 3ft 6ins gauge 4-8-0, one of a batch ordered by the Imperial Military Railways of South Africa to a Cape Government Railway design, their No 121, during the Anglo-Boer War. In 1902, after peace was achieved, it became part of the Central South African Railways as their No 391 and, on the formation of South African Railways in 1910, became SAR Class 7B No 1046. The class was designed for goods working and all were withdrawn by 1972. Cast brass, 9"x6 1/2", the front repainted. (Postage Band: B)
