A worksplate, LMS BUILT 1921 (DOUBLE ARROW), a St Rollox plate from a (Caledonian Railway) Pickersgill 72 Class 4-4-0 built by Armstrong Whitworth. It appears that these plates resulted from a misunderstanding in the pattern shop where a drawing was issued showing the double ended arrow with a note stating that the builders name should be inserted there but this instruction was not followed. Cast brass, 10½"x6", cleaned and the front repainted. This is one of two patterns of arrow on such plates, on the other the arrow is parallel to the lower rim. (Postage Band: B)
